Here's what we were working with at this Andover property - a handful of landscape beds that had lost their definition. The tree circle out front had old mulch that was thin and breaking down, the foundation beds around the house lacked any real structure, and the mailbox post area was just overgrown grass. Nothing was holding its shape. That's a pretty common situation, and it's one of those things that's easy to overlook until it starts dragging down the whole look of the property.
Our approach was to bring consistency across every bed on the lot. We cut clean edges on all of them - front, sides, and back - and installed decorative rock throughout. Rock is a great low-maintenance choice for beds like these because it doesn't break down, it keeps weeds suppressed, and it holds its look year after year without needing to be refreshed every season. The warm brown tone of the rock we used here works really well against the home's siding and brick exterior.
The tree circle out front was one of our favorite parts of this job. We edged it out with border stone and packed it full of the same decorative rock, giving it a finished, intentional look instead of that patchy, undefined appearance it had before. The birdbath and other yard features in that bed actually stand out a lot more now that everything around them is clean and uniform. Small details like that make a big difference once the bed has a clear boundary.
We also took care of the mailbox bed at the street and wrapped the foundation beds all the way around the back of the house. Getting every single bed on a property to match in materials and edging style is what makes a yard feel truly pulled together rather than pieced together. Consistency is one of those things people notice even if they can't quite put their finger on what changed.
Rock installation, clean edging, tree circles - this is exactly the kind of work we do all over the Andover area. If your beds have lost their shape or you're tired of re-mulching every year, decorative rock is worth a serious look.
