This St. Francis backyard had a lot of potential - it just needed some structure. The homeowners wanted a dedicated spot to gather around a fire, plus cleaner landscaping beds around the front of the house that actually looked intentional. That's exactly what we went to work on.

The fire pit area started with grading and compacting the base to get a level, stable surface. We set a circular edging border and compacted the interior so it sits flush and clean. A steel fire ring anchors the center. It's a simple setup that works well - no clutter, just a functional space ready for seating and a good fire.

Out front, the before and after difference is hard to miss. The beds around the foundation had no real definition - patchy grass, loose gravel, nothing pulling it together. We cut in clean curved edging, laid down dark mulch along the foundation, and added a river rock border along the outer edge. The contrast between the black mulch, light rock, and the stone on the house looks sharp.

The detail work is what ties it all together. Good grading, clean edging lines, and the right combination of mulch and rock installation - these are the things that separate a polished yard from one that just has stuff in it. We take that part seriously on every job.

Whether it's a backyard hangout space or just beds that need some structure, the basics done right go a long way. A little grading and the right materials can clean up a yard and make it feel like it was actually designed that way.
